Major heartbreak as EastEnders couple splits – and tragedy follows

Despite being introduced as a loveable playboy who ditched his last girlfriend due to his attraction to her dad, Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier) has fallen head over heels for Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) in EastEnders.

Jasmine has kept Oscar firmly on his toes from the moment she arrived, and he’s seemingly ready to give up his bed-hopping ways for her, despite her complete unwillingness to let him below her expertly crafted veneer.

Jasmine has spent an enormous portion of her time focussed on Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) since emerging in Walford, lapping up any and all tea she could find on her new boss.

Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) enlisted Oscar to help her uncover the truth about the mysterious newcomer, though Jasmine discovered their scheme, which forced Oscar squarely onto the back foot, though Jasmine was more focussed on securing a bed under the same roof as Cindy.

Elaine turned to Cindy herself next, spooked when the HMRC confirmed her national insurance number was fake and when Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) discovered Jasmine and Oscar had stolen and used Anthony Trueman’s (Nicholas Bailey) GP surgery to break in, daughter and monster-in-law endeavoured to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Using Jasmine’s misplaced phone, they contacted her mum, who told them about her ‘dark and dangerous side’. Combined with Nigel Bates’ (Paul Bradley) confession that Jasmine had sworn vengeance on somebody after he ran her over, Cindy became convinced that Jasmine was a Ford and, in turn, a relative of the crime boss Cindy informed on to get out of prison, being forced to live under witness protection to hide from potential vengeance from the gangster family.

When Cindy confronted Jasmine, an enraged Jasmine threw her down a flight of stairs, leaving her for dead.

Oscar discovered what Jasmine had done

Oscar tried to stand beside Jasmine in the aftermath of the incident, once again imploring her to let him in. She still couldn’t, breaking Oscar’s heart. When Jasmine does resurface, a terrified Cindy flees, while Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) calls the police.

Later that week Oscar gives Jasmine her 482nd chance to open up and, as ever, she refuses. Crestfallen, he finally draws a line under their relationship, ending things for good, just before he spots his home being licked by flames.

With Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) trapped inside, Oscar heroically bursts into the house to rescue her. Though they both escape, Oscar in particular is left in a bad way.
