Coronation Street icon Jane Danson marks 20th anniversary with TV star husband

Coronation Street’s Jane Danson shared a heartfelt message to TV star husband Robert Beck on their 20th wedding anniversary.

The couple, who are both soap stars, first met in 1999 at the British Soap Awards, and share two children.

Jane has previously said of her husband: ‘Rob’s absolutely my best friend in the world. We’ve only had about two rows in 20 years. I’m not saying we don’t get on each other’s nerves sometimes, but we’re a strong team and we’ve always allowed each other to be individuals.’

Jane previously revealed that Robert was her childhood crush when she first saw the star in Brookside, where he played the role of Peter Harrison between 1992 and 1993.

She told Reveal magazine: ‘I had a sticker of him on my pencil case. I thought he was gorgeous, even though he was 10 years older than me.’

Yesterday, the Leanne Battersby star took to Instagram to share a picture from their special day, which took place at Lancashire’s Gibbon Bridge Hotel in December 2005.

‘Happy 20th wedding anniversary my love,’ she wrote, tagging Robert in the post.

Robert shared similar sentiments on his own account, alongside a picture of the happy couple cutting their TV themed wedding cake.

’20 years ….It’s been a wild ride … thank you Jane , for bringing love , meaning and crisply ironed boxer shorts into my life .. Happy Anniversary to us , and here’s to another 20 ..’ he penned.

Their Corrie co-stars were quick to rush to the comments to share their love and support.

‘Ah Happy 20th wedding Anniversary you lovely couple,’ Kirk Sutherland actor Andy Whyment said, before telling them to ‘enjoy your day’.

‘Happy big Anniversary you two!’ Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, wrote, while on-screen sister Toyah Battersby star Georgia Taylor called them ‘Absolute couple goals’, adding: ‘Love you both so much’.

During her time on Coronation Street, Jane has been involved in some huge storylines.

Her character Leanne has been at the centre of some explosive love triangles with childhood sweetheart Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), battled a drug addiction and was even indoctrinated by a cult.

Leanne Battersby has been involved in some major Corrie storylines

Perhaps her most harrowing storyline was when Leanne’s son Oliver died from mitochondrial disease.

While Jane has been an icon of Coronation Street since 1997, Robert has taken on roles in multiple soaps after his initial stint in Brookside.

In 1999, he joined the cast of Emmerdale as Bernice Blackstock’s ex Gavin Ferris.

His next soap role came alongside wife Jane as he took on the role of Jimmy Dockerson in Corrie – the man hired by Tony Gordon to kill Liam Connor.

In more recent years, he has played villains in both Hollyoaks and Emmerdale, starring as corrupt businessman Fergus Collins in the Channel 4 soap, and Chloe Harris’ gangster dad Damon in the Dales.

Robert’s most recent soap role was Damon Harris in Emmerdale

Damon was shot dead by Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in a dramatic Christmas Day episode after kidnapping Mack Boyd (Lawrence Robb), who had got Chloe pregnant.

Speaking on Lorraine in 2021, Jane addressed the issue of juggling family life with their acting careers.

‘The good thing about it is that we both get soaps, and we both understand the schedule,’ she explained.

‘Sometimes things change, sometimes he might be in early and sometimes he might be in late. So we just kind of got our diaries out together and kind of planned our week. My mum was always on hand to help out with the boys, which was amazing. So we’ve got a lot of support, which is great.’
