Newest Update!! ‘Be kind’: Emmerdale star issues advice to fans after scene that ‘stayed with her’
Emmerdale star Georgia Jay has shared an important piece of advice after taking a trip down memory lane. The Steph Miligan actress took to Instagram to share some pictures from
an Emmerdale scene she filmed last year, before going on maternity leave. The scene came at a harrowing time in Steph’s story, as the character had just found out the truth about her conception and upbringing.
Steph had always had a strained relationship with mum Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly), who sent her away to boarding school as a child.
Georgia Jay has issued an important piece of advice
It later transpired that Ruby had been sexually abused by her dad, Anthony Fox, and had fallen pregnant with Steph as a result.
After revealing the truth to Caleb Miligan (William Ash), they agreed to keep it from Steph. However, when Ruby ended up killing Anthony, Steph grew suspicious.
As she pushed for the truth, Caleb confessed to the murder, and was even prepared to go to prison for it. This pushed Ruby to tell Steph the truth about Anthony’s abuse, and from there Steph worked out that he was her biological father.
In the weeks that followed, Steph really struggled to come to terms with her identity, and even planned to get plastic surgery to change her appearance.
When her parents found out, they stopped her from being able to attend the appointment, which only made her feel worse.
The story reached a devastating climax when Steph had a breakdown. She told Ross Barton (Michael Parr) that all she could see whenever she looked in the mirror was Anthony’s face.
When Ruby and Caleb finally found her after she sped away from the village drunk, she was planning to disfigure herself to ‘fix things’.
‘This scene stayed with me,’ actress Georgia wrote on Instagram alongside a still from the episode and a behind-the-scenes shot.
‘Steph’s breakdown wasn’t just a storyline; it reflects real life for so many people, often hidden or unheard.’

She went on to give a very important piece of advice to her followers.
‘Be kind. You never know what someone else is carrying.’
Shortly after these scenes, Steph left the village as Georgia headed on maternity leave.
On New Year’s Eve 2025, she revealed that she had actually given birth in June to a daughter called Nora.
