#BoldAndBeautiful bungled this so badly it’s almost impressive. Soapbox: Bold & Beautiful Just Trashed Its Hottest Storyline… In a Single Episode
Wow… just when Bold & Beautiful fans thought they were getting the storyline they’ve desperately been wanting for years, the soap yanked the rug out from under them so unexpectedly that it almost felt like a last-minute rewrite. Either that, or it was just a huge tease gone wrong. What happened?!
Bold & Beautiful fans had been lobbying for a new rival fashion house to take on Forrester Creations for years when, out of nowhere, Bill decided to gift Katie with her own label after an improptu wedding. You could practically hear viewers collectively rubbing their hands together with glee and anticipation. Finally! A story that would take us back to the good ol’ days of runway wars, with a heapin’ helping of family conflict to boot.
It was full-on “grab the popcorn” time in the lead-up, what with Ridge forcing Eric into retirement, Katie and Brooke squaring off and falling out over their own last name, and a delicious revenge scheme taking center stage when Eric signed on to design for Logan.
Fans were geared up for an epic fashion war with the big reveal that Eric was Katie’s “mystery designer” set to leave the almighty Ridge and Brooke absolutely gobsmacked… not to mention with a lesson well-learned about respecting their elders. Katie, meanwhile, would have proven herself against the naysayers by assembling a wonderful team that included, but was not limited to, up-and-comer Deke Sharpe.
Alas, somewhere along the line, something went terribly awry. Rather than a story of Eric and Katie’s redemption, and a fashion showdown for the ages, this morphed into yet another health setback for Eric, with the “big reveal” proving to be a decidedly anti-climactic announcement in a living room, well ahead of the planned debut of the line.
Where did it all go so wrong? Things definitely began to sour when Bill started berating Eric and bellowing about deadlines. Where did his endless “faith” in Katie from the previous weeks go, we had to wonder? Suddenly nothing made sense. In what world would Dollar Bill Spencer be too cheap to pay for the good Italian silk when he was about to go up against The Dressmaker who wronged his wife?!
Meanwhile, Eric, who was the picture of health, vitality and confidence a week previous, was suddenly gasping for breath whilst sketching and doubting his ability to finish a line. A far cry from the creative juices he was struggling to contain at the outset.
It seems like only yesterday that Finn miraculously saved Eric’s life after his last health crisis, and here we are on the verge again. A fashion house war = hot. Another health scare = not.
Adding to the big bungle is the prospect of what’s to come. Katie’s sure to be blamed for Eric’s health crisis by Ridge and Brooke, despite the man being fully grown and able to decide for himself if he wants to work. Ah, what could have been. Do you think this story was botched? Vote!
