Well folks, it’s official: Days of Our Lives‘ Tate is not the father of Sophia’s baby, Tesoro! We learned that at the end of Wednesday’s

episode when Kayla told Brady that the DNA was not a match. Now, we know this is Salem and DNA tests can be changed all the time, but

Brady and Kayla ran this in secret. Sophia never knew about it and even if she did, she’s still a teenager with limited resources — no matter how devious she may be!

Unless Melinda has been paying someone in the lab to keep an eye on DNA requests and change results (which, honestly, isn’t impossible), it seems pretty conclusive that Tate isn’t Tesoro’s father. And if that’s true, then Sophia really has been using this whole baby thing to keep Tate close. She may have done a bit too good of a job in convincing Tate the baby is his, though, because he’s become far more obsessed with his supposed baby than with Sophia.

As Leo Howard mused to Soaps, “I do think Tate really wants this baby deep down. Everything he’s saying is true about how the baby will have a better life with someone else. I think that it’s the first situation in life where he really has to come to terms with the adult-like complexity of the situation where he may want to be the father of this baby and be in the kid’s life.”

And that may put Sophia in an impossible situation. So long as Tate thinks the baby’s his, he’ll be more interested in being a father, than in Sophia. But if he finds out he’s not a dad, there goes any chance of Sophia winning him over. Then there’s the added complication of Tesoro’s real father still being out there somewhere.

As for who that dad is, our guess has been pretty consistent: Aaron. It’s something we floated ages ago, but it had seemed like the show just wasn’t going to go there. Now, though, they have to! And it’s something the fans have been expecting, too.

After it became clear Brady may soon be wrapping up this baby farce, fan Joni Blanchard Howard suggested on Facebook that, “They are going to do a DNA test and use Tate’s DNA, and it’s going to show that he is not the father. I think it’s his best friend’s baby.”

And over on the Soaps Message Boards, there’s an entire thread dedicated to this theory. “I think she somehow assured Aaron that Tate was the father,” prettypleasin guessed. “And he (Aaron) believed her. Not to be mean, but I just don’t see Aaron being smart enough to ask Sophia all the right questions.”

Ouch. We wouldn’t say he’s not smart enough, but Aaron does seem pretty trusting! And if he thought there was a chance the baby could be his, he’d likely be pretty relieved to grasp whatever out was given to him! So if Sophia said it was Tate’s, he might have just happily gone along with it.

“Before Aaron left town, he wanted to tell Tate something but never got a chance,” sissylou added. “The writers definitely put that doubt there that the baby could be his. Plus, Tate used a condom. Doesn’t mean anything, it still could be Tate’s. But just saying there’s reason for doubt.”

Whether or not that doubt pans out remains to be seen. As Howard pointed out about Tate’s current obsession with tracking down the family, “All these feelings, he just doesn’t know where to put them. So, I think it becomes contact in the family. If you watch, there’s all these different things that Tate does through this storyline. He gets really glommed on to certain things.

“And I think that’s pretty realistic, right? In situations, we take all of our feelings and put it into one thing. And then when that doesn’t work, okay, change it to the other thing instead of just dealing with the feeling itself.”
