Casualty stars Milo Clarke and Olly Rix have assured fans that the show will come back even stronger when the hospital relocates to Wales on-screen. It’s a big change, but one the actors promise won’t harm the medical drama’s success.
Back in April, Casualty was put out to competitive tender, a process that will decide which producer makes the long-running medical drama going forward – while it continues to air on the BBC.

But a document revealed that the potential new producers will need to move the setting to a new Welsh hospital, taking Casualty away from the fictional location of Holby that it has inhabited for almost 40 years.
Though Casualty has been filmed in Cardiff since 2011, the upcoming era of the series – which won’t be seen by viewers for a long while yet – will reflect the realities of the Welsh NHS.

Speaking exclusively to us at the Inside Soap Awards 2025, Milo, who plays paramedic Teddy Gowan, explained that while this move might take some getting used to, fans should have nothing to worry about.
“We film in Wales, so Wales feels like our home anyway,” said the actor, who debuted as Teddy in 2021. “So for us, it’s not going to feel like too much of a stark change. It’s going to feel quite comfortable for us.
“The fans might have to adjust a little bit, but hopefully we take across everything that we know and love about the show. And we’ll be in a good place, we’ll be in a great place, we’ll be in a stronger place – and we’re going to come back fighting. It’ll be great.”

Olly, who has portrayed clinical lead Flynn Byron since March, echoed the sentiment of his co-star, but explained that the details of the relocation are being kept under wraps for the time being.
“We can’t give specifics on how that move happens,” he admitted. “But we work so closely with the Welsh part of the BBC anyway and it’s something we’re really proud of. So it’s just going to be a pretty easy continuation of that. It’s going to be great.”
But while change is afoot in the ED, both actors still love being part of the show and are excited to see what the future holds.

“I love working there,” Milo enthused. “I’ve been there for over four years now, so for me Cardiff is like a second home, and it’s good.”
“I love the role, I love the cast and the show,” Olly added. “It’s been a great thing to be involved in for my first year – I’m now going into my second, so we’ll see how it goes.”
