‘Robron’ fans have rejoiced since unhinged killer, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) was vanquished (for now), clearing the path for Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) to reunite. But the course of true love never runs smoothly…especially in soap!

When Robert returned to the village to reclaim Aaron, reuniting with his ex-husband seemed to be his only motivating factor. He took on his half-brother, John and with things seemingly finally going his way, and with Robron fans hearts about to mended…

…it turned out John’s departure hasn’t removed all obstacles in the ‘Robron path to happiness’, and another husband has reared his head to keep the boys apart.

Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) recently appeared in the village, seeking out Robert. As Robert explained to his sister, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins), he married Kev inside, primarily for protection.

Frequently targeted for vicious beatings and harassment due to his sexuality and being ‘posh’, Kev, a long-term prisoner who’d been sentenced for armed robbery, came to Robert’s rescue, and with Robert believing he owed his life to his saviour, the two got married.

The marriage wasn’t purely born out of Kev’s protection, though. Kev is terminally ill and, as it turns out, has an enormous stash of money, and Robert’s waiting for him to die so he can inherit it.

As promised, Robert visited Kev in prison the following week and viewers were granted a look at his hair-trigger temper and terrifying rage.
