Before Vivica A. Fox returns to #YR, allow us to refresh your memory about the long-gone character she’ll be bringing home to Genoa City.
From Independence Day to Kill Bill to Sharknado 2, Vivica A. Fox tends to make a lasting impression. But she was on The Young and the Restless so briefly in 1994-95 that you can be forgiven if you don’t quite remember the scene stealer’s character. Not to worry, though, Soaps.com has you covered.
Who Was Dr. Stephanie Simmons?
By the time that Fox made her entrance in Genoa City, she was already a daytime vet, having passed through Days of Our Lives as Carmen and rocked Generations as Maya Reubens. (Her catfight with Jonelle Allen’s wicked Doreen Jackson — penned by Beyond the Gates’ Michele Val Jean — remains one for the record books! See below.)
But we digress! In the mid-’90s, Shemar Moore’s Malcolm Winters was infatuated with brother Neil’s wife, Drucilla Barber — to the point that the photographer slept with her when she was too high on cold medicine to realize she wasn’t hooking up with her actual partner. When the dust settled, Dru forgive Malcolm and made herself (and everyone else) believe that baby Lily was Neil’s. (Spoiler alert: She wasn’t.)
Still, Dru wouldn’t have minded if she and her brother-in-law could put the incident completely in the past. To that end, she encouraged her sis Olivia to set him up with fellow doctor Stephanie Simmons — played by Fox.

For a while, Malcolm and Stephanie were inarguably the most gorgeous couple in all of Genoa City. But alas, sparky chemistry and stunning looks weren’t enough for the two of them to sustain a long-term relationship. Being and M.D., it turned out, was a lot more time-consuming than being a hotshot shutterbug like Malcolm was.
Ultimately, the couple parted ways, leaving the heartthrob free to eventually tie the knot with Olivia. While you’re here anticipating Moore and Fox’s returns to Young & Restless.
