Coronation Street struggle ahead for Bernie – as Mal refuses to leave Weatherfield

Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter-Alahan has a big problem on her hands next week, as newcomer Mal Roper decides to stick around in Weatherfield. Will Bernie’s husband Dev finally learn the truth about her messy night out?

When Mal arrives at the café to start work on the electrics in Roy Cropper’s flat, Bernie can’t help but feel uncomfortable by his presence. But that’s not the only time that Bernie bumps into Mal – she and Dev also spot him at The Rovers later that day…

“It must be so awkward for Bernie,” our Corrie source explains. “Bernie and Mal shared a drug-fuelled night together, which Bernie still hasn’t come clean to Dev about.

“So, it’s her worst nightmare to see Mal not only at her place of work, but also in the local boozer.”

At The Rovers, Bernie summons up the courage to quietly talk to Mal, who vows to keep their secret and leave town once his work at Roy’s is done. But will Mal keep to his word?

Later in the week, Mal arrives at the café to find Bernie struggling with the lunchtime rush. Eager to help, Mal offers his services, which Bernie reluctantly accepts.

“Bernie isn’t keen on the idea at all,” our spy continues. “But she eventually gives in because the orders are flying in thick and fast. You’ll have to wait and see whether she’ll live to regret her decision or whether it’ll work out in her favour.”

As Mal makes himself comfortable on the Street, is Bernie’s secret safe? Or will Mal go back on his promise?

Bernie’s wild night aired in Thursday’s visit to the cobbles (29 January), which was a special episode focusing solely on her storyline with Mal.

She met Mal in the Chariot Square Hotel bar and accepted an invitation to join him upstairs in his room.

Although Bernie rejected Mal’s advances, she gave in to temptation in another form by heading out to buy pills for her and Mal to share. The sad scenes came as part of Bernie’s ongoing grief storyline following Billy Mayhew’s tragic death in the Corriedale crash.
