Zoe Slater actress Michelle Ryan has confessed the scripts for the big episodes “are really up there” with some iconic moments in the show’s past. In fact she hinted the twists planned could be just as iconic as the 2001 ‘you ain’t my muvva’ scenes and what followed between Zoe and her mother Kat Moon.
There’s set to be some big discoveries for both Kat and Zoe that will have a lasting impact, as some truths come to light. With catastrophic events teased too, Michelle has promised some big moments ahead.
She shared: “The Christmas scripts are the best ensemble scripts I’ve ever read and been part of in EastEnders. The You Ain’t My Mother scenes, and the two hander that followed will always be really special to me, and these scripts are really up there alongside those.”

Michelle then discussed the exciting scripts for the Christmas episodes, calling it “amazing” with so much ahead. She shared: “As I was going through them, I was thinking ‘wow this is amazing material’.

“The director Chris [McGill] was like ‘I need to speak to you’ and now I know why he said that [Laughs]. There is so much happening. It’s like a series within a series, and it’s a privilege to be a part of them.”

It’s safe to so Michelle’s own Christmas won’t be as eventful, with her confessing: “I’ll be with family, having a far less dramatic Christmas than Zoe!” In the lead-up to the episodes, it remains a difficult time for Zoe and Kat, but some big moments over the festive period “change everything”.

Michelle shared: “Zoe is still very much in a spiral. She feels someone is out to get her and Kat is very worried. There are times when you see Zoe feeling OK, and then she struggles again.

“I think it also does cause tension with Kat and Alife, as they both have different opinions on what is happening with her. The family are trying to piece back together, and Kat is doing everything within her power to do that, and she does always defend Zoe.

“In the week of Christmas, Kat and Zoe both make discoveries that change everything, but that’s all I’ll say for now.” She went on: “She’s desperate to find her son and really will do whatever it takes to track him down.

“It’s especially hard during this time of year, as Christmas is a time for family, and although it’s going to be the first Christmas Zoe has spent with her family in twenty years, that in itself makes it harder for Zoe, as it’s the first time it really sticks out to her that her son isn’t there when she’s confronted with that family unit. Kat and Alfie are doing their best to try and rally her, but she’s laser focused on being reunited with him.

“On top of that, Zoe has also been at the centre of a lot of strange events in Walford, and a lot of tormenting, and so she’s on edge, and feeling vulnerable.” Michelle teased there were some night shoots too, as she talked about the Christmas decor in Albert Square.

She spilled: “It’s magical. The external set, which we call the Lot, is my favourite as I love the big Christmas tree, and the lights. Even though it can get incredibly cold on night shoots, there is something so wonderful about seeing Albert Square lit up in all of its festive glory.”
