Emmerdale’s Chris Coghill Teases “A Lot of Tension” and a “Dangerous” Edge in Explosive Kev Storyline
Emmerdale star Chris Coghill has opened up about his character Kev’s volatile role in the ITV soap’s latest love triangle — one that’s already left viewers reeling.
The actor revealed that the upcoming episodes will explore just how dark and unpredictable Kev can be, as his connection to Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) spirals into a full-blown emotional and physical showdown.
A Dangerous Man With a Dark Past
In a jaw-dropping twist, fans recently learned that Kev — who first arrived in the village in September — isn’t just an old acquaintance of Robert’s. The two men are secretly married, having tied the knot while serving time in prison.
Robert has kept the truth hidden from Aaron, who he’s recently rekindled his romance with, but the truth is set to explode when Aaron catches Robert and Kev kissing in upcoming scenes.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Chris Coghill hinted that the fallout will be anything but simple:
“It’s complicated, isn’t it? Kev is unhinged. There are genuine feelings there [for Robert], but they’re not quite what they should be. He’s an incredibly dangerous person. Kev wouldn’t have any qualms about physically attacking anybody — apart from possibly Robert.”
The actor added that Kev isn’t a typical soap villain, but someone far more unpredictable:
“People thought, here’s another baddie — but he isn’t. He’s a criminal, and he’s got psychopathic tendencies.”
Tension Boils Between Kev and Aaron
Fans can expect intense scenes between Kev and Aaron as their rivalry over Robert reaches boiling point.
Chris teased, “We [Kev and Aaron] don’t like each other. There is a lot of tension with Aaron. I like working with Danny [Miller].”
Their dynamic, he says, is both raw and explosive — with neither man willing to back down. And with Cain Dingle hovering in the background, the tension could easily turn violent. “Aaron’s a Dingle, but I wouldn’t like to have a fight with Cain,” Chris joked.
A Softer Side With Victoria
While Kev’s relationship with Robert is volatile and obsessive, Chris hinted that viewers will soon see a different side of his character — one that emerges in his interactions with Victoria Sugden.
“There’s quite a nice, little, underlying thing with Victoria,” he said. “She sees a vulnerability in him and there’s some quite sweet stuff that happens.”
Still, Kev’s unpredictable nature means any emotional connection could quickly turn dangerous, especially as more villagers become tangled in Robert’s secrets.
What’s Next for Kev, Robert, and Aaron?
With Emmerdale teasing a major standalone episode focused on Robert’s time in prison, viewers are bracing for shocking revelations about how his relationship with Kev began — and what drove it to such dangerous extremes.
As Aaron learns the truth and emotions boil over, Chris Coghill warns that the storyline is about to enter explosive territory.
“A lot of this story is concentrated between the three of us,” he said. “Charity, Chas, and the Dingles get involved to a degree, but it’s r
