Exclusive: Coronation Street star confirms dramatic crash fallout for Brody and Dylan

Coronation Street star Ryan Mulvey has spoken about the show’s dramatic new crash storyline for the first time – warning that a key friendship on the cobbles is about to be severely tested.

The actor’s character Brody Michaelis is implicated in a shocking road incident next week, as there’s a worrying collision at the Weatherfield Precinct.

Upcoming scenes see Brody and his friend Dylan Wilson continue to steal cars for Carl Webster.

Shortly after the lads’ latest criminal act, Betsy Swain witnesses disaster strike at the Weatherfield Precinct as someone is run over.

George Shuttleworth later announces that he saw Dylan driving the stolen car shortly beforehand, but is he really to blame for what happened? Either way, Dylan and Brody will surely want to keep their illegal activities closely under wraps…

Ryan has now shared his first thoughts on the storyline in an exclusive interview with Soap Scoop, the weekly podcast from Inside Soap with star chats every Tuesday.

“That’s been so much fun. Just firstly filming it – you get to go on location and drive quite a posh car, which is fun,” Ryan enthused.

“And then doing it with someone who’s similar in age – like with Liam [McCheyne, who plays Dylan] and you’re on set driving a Porsche. So that was absolutely brilliant!

“Even though they’re doing this quite drastic crime, they’re still having a petty argument between two teenagers. So they’re driving this massive car and still arguing about girls and stuff like that! That escalates – and you’ll see it in the episode…”

He continued: “First they’re having a great time. They drive past George and I think Fiz might be there as well. But obviously we have no clue [what’s happened] until later on in the episode. They’ve not been caught, but it’s definitely very dodgy information being told that it looks like Dylan’s been driving the car.

“So I think both of them are absolutely terrified of the idea of being found out. Brody definitely plays it cool and thinks they’re going to have to carry on like normal. You have to carry on with life, or you’re just going be caught.

“Where Dylan’s definitely the opposite! So it’s like chalk and cheese, doing the scenes where Dylan is so terrified and he’s so anxious. Brody’s like: ‘Ah, just relax mate. What are you doing that for?’

“So that’s been really fun to play. There are different shades in the scenes and [we explore] the friendships, who’s got whose backing, and who you can actually trust in the friendship…”
