FACE VALUE Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd reveals moment he knew he’d lost award to Steve McFadden at NTAs and denies he was ‘p****d off’

JACK P Shepherd has revealed the moment he knew he’d lost out to Steve McFadden at this year’s National Television Awards.

EastEnders legend Steve, 66 – who plays Phil Mitchell in the soap – scooped his first-ever NTA last week when he picked up the gong for Serial Drama Performance.

He beat off the likes of Coronation Street’s Jack, 37, and his EastEnders co-star Jacqueline Jossa.

Now David Platt actor Jack has shared the moment he knew Steve had won.

Speaking on his podcast On The Sofa with Colson, Jack and Ben, he said: “They said my name first and there was no reaction. But then the next person was Steve McFadden and everyone goes mental.

“So everyone who’s nominated, you have cameras [facing you]. And then they went, ‘and the winner is…’.

“All the cameras turned away from me and went to Phil Mitchell. So it was like, there’s obviously not a camera on me, just to give you a clue that I’ve definitely not won this.”

Jack also insisted he wasn’t annoyed about losing to Steve – despite what his facial expression on the night might have suggested.

He continued: “My trick of the trade this week is the ‘loser’s face’, when you haven’t won the award. What do you do?

“Do you graciously clap and go, ‘yep, well done’? Do you over-egg the pudding as those you’re pleased they’ve won and you’ve lost? Do you do the really p***** off face?

“Or the other one, to pretend not to be paying attention and laugh at some joke that someone has not made?

“Usually I don the ‘massively p***** off’ look because it makes me laugh. But this year, because I had no camera on me, I didn’t do anything but they had a little sniper camera.

“So I was in shot and my reaction was ‘I’m just watching the NTAs’. I genuinely wasn’t p***** off.”

In July Jack tied the knot with Hanni Treweek – but he recently told how the day was almost thrown into chaos by a nightmare with her family.

Jack revealed they went to the wrong venue for the wedding ceremony and turned up 15 minutes late.

“It was all Hanni’s Irish family, they all went to the wrong church,” Jack explained.

“They went to the Catholic church at the back of Deansgate, they just assumed it was there.”
