Former EastEnders star Richard Blackwood opens up about Vincent Hubbard’s fate. “I’m thick-skinned, I’m OK with their decisions,”. Could Walford ever see Vincent rise from the dead?
Vincent’s Death Still Divides Fans
Vincent Hubbard’s mysterious disappearance remains one of EastEnders’ most debated storylines. The former nightclub owner and husband of Kim Fox was last seen in 2018, held at gunpoint by corrupt officer DCI Alsworth in the back of a car. The vehicle then drove out of Walford, leaving viewers wondering if Vincent had survived.
For three years, fans speculated endlessly until 2021, when the BBC soap officially confirmed that Vincent had been killed by crime boss Aidan Maguire’s henchmen. Even so, many loyal viewers have never stopped hoping for a twist that would bring him back.
“I’m Thick-Skinned About It”
Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the 2025 Best Heroes Awards, Richard Blackwood reflected on his character’s fate and the passionate response from fans. “I think more for the audience,” he admitted. “I’m thick-skinned, I’m OK with the decisions they made. I have no bad blood with EastEnders. But the audience always say, ‘Is Vincent coming back?’ And I always say, ‘I don’t know.’”
His words reignited speculation that Vincent’s story might not be over — especially as the show has a long history of bringing characters back from the dead.
EastEnders’ History of Dramatic Returns
EastEnders fans know better than to take a death at face value. Dirty Den Watts famously returned 14 years after being shot and presumed dead, while Kathy Beale’s resurrection in 2015 remains one of the soap’s biggest shocks. Most recently, Cindy Beale stunned everyone when she returned to Walford in 2023, decades after her supposed death in childbirth.
Given that history, Vincent’s “confirmed” death may not be as final as it seems — especially since his body was never shown on screen.
“Never Say Never”
Since leaving EastEnders, Richard Blackwood has kept busy, competing on Dancing on Ice in 2019 and joining Hollyoaks as Felix Westwood the following year. But he hasn’t ruled out a trip back to Albert Square.
“I watch it, and I go, ‘Maybe one day, Vincent will come back in there,’” he teased. “I would never say never.”
With fan theories now linking Vincent to current Walford villain Ravi Gulati, speculation about his potential return is growing louder than ever.
