Hey, if it works, it works… #GeneralHospital’s Maurice Benard reveals the surprising way he brings Sonny to life. Maurice Benard Reveals the Surprising Way He Brings Sonny to Life
It takes a lot for your favorite characters to be brought to life. The lighting needs to be just right, as does the direction of the cameras, hair and makeup needs to be handled, not to mention wardrobe, but there is one thing much bigger, the most important element, that needs to be taken care of prior to all that… learning lines — and General Hospital’s Maurice Benard recently gave fans a look into what helps him bring Sonny to life each weekday.
The ABC soap vet posted a video on his official Instagram and shared, “I always like learning my lines with music. I like the connection.” Viewers were able to watch as Benard looked over a script while dancing to The Lovin’ Spoonful’s 1966 hit “Daydream.” Just look at those moves!

Fans loved seeing Benard in his dressing room and having fun while working to bring Sonny to life. While Val Hedglin Smith stated, “I could watch this 100 times! Love it,” Jean Helmer added, “I can’t imagine a world without music,” and Susan Kalansky shared, “Maurice Benard, such a great video, made me smile.” It made us smile too — and that’s why we’re passing along the video to you!
And earlier this month, the actor posted another video to introduce his new granddaughter and expressed, “What can I say? Life’s pretty damn good right now. Sometimes you just have to pinch yourself and be grateful for everything… don’t take anything for granted.”
We always enjoy Benard’s posts and hope they add a little smile to your day.
