HOT NEWS!! Coronation Street reveals major new story for Tyrone after tragic car accident
Coronation Street has revealed a major new storyline for Tyrone Dobbs following his tragic accident.
Monday’s (8 September) instalment of the ITV soap saw Dylan Wilson and Brody Michaelis recklessly drive a stolen vehicle around Weatherfield, with the teens continuing their work for Carl Webster.
As they came hurtling around the corner, Betsy Swain appeared to be the one in danger as she screamed down the phone while recording a voice message for her mother Lisa. In a twist, however, it was later revealed that Tyrone had been hit.
With the beloved figure last seen being driven to hospital, where his family waited nervously in the hall, it has now been confirmed that Tyrone will be part of a new storyline as his “long road to recovery” begins.
In next week’s scenes, it will be revealed that Tyrone has suffered a severe spinal injury following the hit-and-run. As his wife Fiz comes to his bedside in hospital, Tyrone will devastatingly share that he has lost all feeling in his legs.
The storyline, which has been developed in collaboration with charity Spinal Injuries Association, will also see the local police force begin their investigation into the incident – but will they discover the whole truth?
“We are grateful to ITV studios and Coronation Street for raising awareness of the trauma of spinal cord injury, the terrifying impact of sudden paralysis and the long-term management of neuropathic pain and permanent mobility issues,” said the charity in a statement.
“Spinal Injuries Association has offered clinical expertise and guidance to accurately represent, as much as feasibly possible, the experience of those who may be living through similar trauma to Tyrone.
“Seeing the impact on his life and those around him like Fiz will increase public understanding of the experience for the 105,000 people living with spinal cord injury across the UK, many of whom struggle to access the care and expertise they need.”
Alan Halsall, who has portrayed Tyrone for the past 27 years, said of the arc: “Tyrone’s first thoughts are confusion. He can’t really remember what’s happened [and] he doesn’t know why he’s in the hospital.
“Then, as he’s coming round [where] he’s clearly in lots of pain, he has this realisation that something isn’t quite right and he can’t feel his legs. There’s just a hell of a lot of fear, wondering how he’s got there [and] why he’s feeling like this. He is terrified.
“He waits until he is on his own with Fiz in the hospital as he doesn’t want to scare the others, particularly his girls. Once he starts to understand what’s going on with him and why he can’t feel his legs and what’s happened, he needs his family around him.”
The actor also praised the Spinal Injuries Association for their work on the storyline, adding that it had organised a meeting with a patient who had been “living through a similar situation”.
