HOT NEWS!! Coronation Street star confirms major confrontations as Carl Webster is caught out

Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard has confirmed that there will be some major confrontations in Weatherfield as Carl Webster is caught out following his various affairs – what will the consequences be?

Carl has been an agent of chaos since his arrival on the cobbled streets in April, with the character exploiting his half-brother, Kevin, in more ways than one as he brought some shady dealings to the garage.

Furthermore, Carl embarked on a romance with Kevin’s wife Abi, with the latter eventually leaving her husband after months of intrigue. The bed-hopping didn’t stop there, however, with Carl also having a fling with James Bailey.

Speaking to The Sun at the 2025 Inside Soap Awards, Howard shared that his character would soon be in the firing line from several angles as his antics are unearthed, leading to some heated conversations.

“His impulsiveness and selfishness is going to catch up with him for sure,” said the actor, who has also had roles in Holby City and Hollyoaks. “He’s going to have some confrontations to face the effect of the causes he has made.”

“I don’t think he’s going to keep getting away with the stuff he’s doing. Carl is going to cross [Kevin’s] path and I think all hell is going to break loose. It’s all going to come to fruition,” he continued.

While Carl has shown a mean streak in his storylines involving Tracy Barlow and Tyrone Dobbs, Howard emphasised his belief that his character isn’t a “sinister” villain in the making, but rather an individual who occasionally succumbs to selfishness.

“It’s really fun playing Carl, I get to make selfish, devious [and] impulsive decisions that I can’t do in my own life,” he said. “I don’t think he’ll be a [major villain] – I don’t think he’s sinister. I think he’s desperate [and] selfish.

“In the moment, he’s thinking of ways to save his skin and obviously those decisions aren’t necessarily the most moral or good decisions… I wouldn’t say he’s bad, evil or going to be a murderer. He’s just a guy that’s made bad decisions.”

While Carl could soon be in the crosshairs of Kevin, his on-screen partner Sally Carman – who plays Abi – recently teased that her character could discover Carl’s fling with James, leading to all sorts of questions.
