The actor, 45, posted a sweet snap with teary eyed co-star Harriet Bibby, who he described as an “incredible woman” and a “beautiful human” as he waved goodbye to the cobbles.

In an emotional Instagram post, Daniel wrote: “My final day today working with this beautiful human. I’ve loved playing her tv dad. What an honour it has been.

“An incredible woman. I shall miss her terribly. Thank goodness I’ll get to see her in real life for dinners, walks & cuddles. [heart emoji]”.

The sweet snap of the pair received over 11,000 likes on the platform, with co-stars and fans quickly paying tribute to the actor as he makes his Corrie exit.

His on-screen daughter Harriet, who plays Summer Spellman, commented: “What an adventure we had! [heart emoji] I love you loads x”.

Former Corrie star Peter Ash wrote: “You two are ace! xx”.

Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw on the soap, added: “Love you both the most [crying emoji] [heart eye emoji]”.

While actress Sally Carman, who plays Abi Franklin, responded: “Oh you guys [crying emoji] [heart emoji]”.

Daniel’s departure was revealed by The Sun earlier this year, with his exit set to air next year in a sensational storyline.

Confirming his exit, Daniel said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life.

“I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.

“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

Corrie producer Kate Brooks said: “Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit.

“We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND.

“An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.”

Actor Daniel joined the soap in 2014 as Sean Tully’s new love interest and quickly established himself as a supportive character on the cobbles.

However, it wasn’t long before Billy became a regular Corrie character, having affairs, being revealed as the unwitting killer of Ken Barlow’s daughter Susan and then descending into heroin addiction.

More recently he’s become embroiled in pal and ex Todd Grimshaw’s ordeal as abusive boyfriend Theo tightens his grip on him.
