NEW UPDATE! Coronation Street story may confirm major link between Roy and Emmerdale character

Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) recently realised that her uncle Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was hiding a secret from her in Coronation Street.

The café owner had been acting shifty around the postie, which didn’t escape Nina’s notice.

She was so concerned that she started asking the customers if they’d noticed anything strange about him, but no one else had been alarmed by his behaviour.

Eventually, Nina asked Roy outright what was going on, and why he was being so weird around the postman.

He admitted that he had signed up to a scheme that allows people to write to prisoners, and had been sending letters to several convicts.

Nina was visibly relieved as she confessed she had been worried he’d been waiting for test results after some kind of health scare, but he was quick to put her mind at ease. She was still confused about why he would keep it a secret, but he brushed off her questions by insisting that he just hadn’t felt the need to broadcast it.

He explained that, during his time in prison, he realised that it can get quite lonely, and wanted to give other people in the same position someone to talk to.

As Roy begins to connect with those on the inside, it got us thinking about the possibility of this story connecting with the upcoming Corriedale crossover episode.

The instalment, which is going to air at the start of 2026, will see characters from Weatherfield and Emmerdale crossover for the first time ever.

A treat for two soap fandoms!
We’ve already had confirmation that Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) will feature, and we’ve also seen a picture of John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) in an episode of Corrie, but could Roy’s new story eventually see confirmation of another part of the crossover?

In today’s episode of Emmerdale, which is now available on ITVX, Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) commits another armed robbery at a pawn shop. He steals expensive items and money, as part of his plan to win Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) back.

Kev’s plan doesn’t work in his favour because Robert learns the truth, and also discovers the money that he’d often reference in prison doesn’t actually exist.

The crossover is going to air in 2026
Robert updates Aaron after, who then realises they have a perfect chance to get rid of Kev for good. Aaron tells Robert that all they need to do is find the items Kev has stolen, and tell the police. The criminal would then be put back in a cell, and Robron could continue their future together without looking over their shoulders.

It’s safe to say that Kev is a lonely character, and even more so after getting dumped by Robert. If he’s placed back inside, writing to innocent café owner Roy Cropper from Manchester seems like something he would do.

Could Kev start writing to Roy, adding another crossover Easter Egg to the list, and therefore assisting in setting the foundations for an epic story where these two worlds collide?

Earlier this month, Emmerdale and Corrie asked for fans to share their dream crossover duos, which could be in with a chance of featuring in Corriedale.

Iain MacLeod, ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, teased the game-changing episode and said: ‘It’s beyond exciting that filming is under way on Corriedale. There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites and the images coming out of the shoot are utterly spectacular.

‘And that’s before we’ve even got to all the brilliant transpennine interactions between characters from the different shows!

He added: ‘As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable.’
