Patrick spirals as Zoe drops a bombshell about Anthony in EastEnders

Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) has been understandably broken in the aftermath of the death of his son, Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey), in EastEnders.

The second of Patrick’s two sons to perish, both in an incredibly grisly fashion,

Anthony died after a violent showdown with Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), who’d just discovered both that Anthony knew he was the dad of her long lost twins and that he’d lied to her mum, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) that they’d died.

Unknown to everyone, though, is that Anthony’s daughter, Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness), delivered the killing blow.

The final words Patrick exchanged with Anthony prior to his murder were cruel. After learning what Anthony had done to Zoe, he announced that he’d rather Anthony had died than Paul, before Anthony headed off to his own demise.

As Patrick has battled with his grief, he was even more staggered to learn that Jasmine, who’d been living in such close proximity for months, was his granddaughter.

Amid Jasmine’s struggles to connect with the Slater/Moon family, and though he initially rejected her, a timely suggestion from Patrick’s beloved wife, Yolande (Angela Wynter), Patrick has made great strides to fix their fractured relationship, and offered her support as she’s clashed with Jean (Gillian Wright) and Lily (Lillia Turner).

Last week saw him offer Jasmine money toward a trip away, unaware that she was planning to disappear for good with boyfriend Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier).

With Zoe in prison for killing Anthony and ready to plead guilty to manslaughter and Kat’s die-hard belief that Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) is guilty of the crime, alongside her drive to get Jasmine to make a statement to the police confirming said belief, Jasmine is seriously rattled and desperate to escape.

Kat pleads with Patrick not to visit Zoe

As Patrick is left to organise Anthony’s funeral, both Kim and Denise Fox (Tameka Empson and Diane Parish) step in to help, though they’re taken aback when Patrick asks for help in organising a prison visit with Zoe.

Despite Kat’s protestations that a visit will do no good for either party, Patrick is determined to see Zoe, insisting that he needs answers.

As the visit gets underway, Zoe tries her hardest to tell Patrick what happened that night without wounding him any further.

Following the visit, Patrick continues to spiral, unaware of how he’s supposed to grieve his son after all of his cruel acts toward the mother of his children and, despite the presence of Kim and Denise, it seems as though nothing can lift him.

Will Patrick be able to find closure after the death of his son?
