Trial shocker in EastEnders as Teddy’s decision leads to verdict

Most parents would go to the ends of the Earth for their children. EastEnders’ Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) is no different, though instead of the ends of the Earth, his desire to protect his son, Harry Mitchel (Elijah Holloway), looks set to take him straight to prison for a 25-stretch.

Teddy is currently on remand after taking the fall for the death of Tobias ‘Okie’ Okyere (Aayan Ibikunle Shoderu), who imprisoned and tortured Harry for months, leaving him a broken, drug-addicted shell of his former self.

Utterly unwilling to see his already severely damaged son face life in prison, Teddy put his fingerprints on Okie’s knife and made a full confession while Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) distracted Harry.

When he learned what his dad was doing, Harry raced across the Square to stop him but it was much too late; Teddy had been loaded into a police car and later charged with murder.

Nicola is keeping the truth from Harry

Unbeknownst to Harry and his other son, Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman), Teddy has plead guilty, with Nicola desperately trying to keep the truth from fragile Harry.

Still in the grips of active addiction, Nicola is trying her best to care for him, though his hunger for drugs continues to drive him and when George Knight (Colin Salmon) drops by to check in on him, inadvertently revealing the truth about Teddy’s guilty plea, Harry explodes.

Wracked with guilt and shame, Harry reveals that he killed Okie, though just as George manages to convince him to do the right thing, Nicola puts a halt to the proceedings by announcing that she’s pregnant and George is the father.

As George and Nicola deal with her revelation, Harry retreats back into the drugs bag, and when they return home to find him gone, panic ensues.

Locating him alongside Gina Knight (Francesca Henry), George convinces Harry to attend Teddy’s trial, despite Nicola’s protestations, where the Mitchell family reel as the judge delivers Teddy’s verdict.

What is Teddy facing?
In the immediate aftermath, Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) decides to move in with biological dad, Zack Hudson (James Farrar), much to Nicola’s chagrin, while Harry heads to the arches with a bag of drugs.
But what has the judge sentenced Teddy to? Is this the last we’ll see of him for a while? Can his family recover?
