Jack P Shepherd, 37, best known for playing David Platt in Coronation Street since 2000, married long-time partner Hanni Treweek, 35, in a beautiful ceremony held at Manchester Cathedral in July. The day was filled with love, celebration, and plenty of familiar faces from the cobbles.
Jack and Hanni first met behind the scenes at the ITV soap, where she worked as a script editor before shifting into fashion and lifestyle content creation. The couple made their relationship public in 2017 and have remained inseparable ever since.
In June 2024, Shepherd proposed during a once-in-a-lifetime safari trip to Tanzania. The actor popped the question under the African sky, a moment the couple described as ‘magical’ in social media posts at the time.
Among the guests were his on-screen sister Tina O’Brien (Sarah Platt) and Helen Worth, who portrayed David’s mum Gail Platt for over five decades until her emotional exit from the soap last Christmas. Helen played a particularly meaningful role in Jack and Hanni’s big day, as did Ben Price, who plays David’s older brother Nick.
Appearing alongside Hanni for their first joint TV interview as a married couple on Loose Women, Jack shared the emotional significance of having his Corrie family involved in the ceremony.
‘Helen gave a Bible reading, Ben gave a Bible reading. So we thought we’d get the actors up,’ he explained. ‘I was 12 when I started, 25 years, it’s mad because I’ve done 25 and when I started, Helen had done 25!’
Helen, who bowed out of the soap in late 2023, made headlines when her character, Gail, married for the seventh time during the festive season, tying the knot with Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson), the ex of longtime rival Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).
Helen’s participation added a sentimental layer to the day, especially as it marked her first public appearance since leaving Coronation Street. She attended the ceremony with her husband Trevor Dawson, wearing a chic patterned blue dress, black heels, and her signature hairstyle, beaming throughout the day.
Jack also reflected on what it’s been like filming without Helen by his side following her departure. Although her presence is missed, he acknowledged that the show always finds a way to move forward.
‘What’s it like with her not on the set? It just moves on. Big characters have been in and gone, and the show still carries on,” he said. ‘The Platts is such a great family and I’m lucky to be in that clan!’
Jack, who took over the role of David from Thomas Ormson, has grown up on screen and been at the centre of some of Corrie’s most intense and emotional storylines and has been a fan favourite for over two decades.
Helen announced her decision to leave Coronation Street in a statement last year, sharing how the timing felt right after 50 remarkable years on the soap.
‘This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,’ she said.
While Helen’s presence on-screen is deeply missed, her special involvement in Jack’s wedding clearly meant the world to him, cementing the deep bond forged over the years on the cobbles.
