Young & Restless’ Michelle Stafford Tells All About the Moment That ‘Left Me Crying Like a Baby’
Crying on command is part of being a good soap actress and The Young and the Restless’ Michelle Stafford has shed a tear or two as Phyllis over the years in Genoa City. While in the real world one could master the act of bringing on happy or sad tears to use to their advantage if needed, there are plenty of times when no acting is needed, they just simply flow — and this is what happened during a very special moment over the weekend.
Like many around the world, Stafford was watching when the US Hockey Team took home the gold during an Olympic win against their Canadian nemesis with a score of 2-1 in overtime. Sure, cheers could be heard everywhere, given that the team hadn’t won a gold medal since 1980’s February 22nd “Miracle on Ice” but that wasn’t what brought so many like Stafford to tears…

The moment that gave everyone chills and likely didn’t leave a dry eye in the Milano Santagiulia Arena was when two US players went up to the stands and brought Johnny Gaudreau’s children on the ice to sit with the team while they celebrated their win.
“This was beautiful,” Stafford shared while posting a video of the memorable event on her official Instagram. “Bringing Johnny Gaudreau’s children on the ice after their win. I’m just here crying like a baby. Some moments are bigger than the game.”
And she was so right… some moments are just “bigger than the game” and this one will go down in the Olympic history books. For those who don’t know, their fellow hockey player and his brother lost their lives on August 29, 2024 after being hit by a drunk driver when the two had been cycling in Oldmans Township in New Jersey.
So you see, this win was about more than a gold medal, it was about remembering their love and admiration for Gaudreau as a father, a husband, a teammate and a friend.
