Wow, wow, wow… what just happened?! In a hot minute everything changed on Young & Restless, and set the scene for a storyline twist that we genuinely didn’t see coming… a partner swap!

Just when we thought Young & Restless had lost its mojo, a whirlwind of drama hit our screens that left the landscape almost unrecognizable. Victor, up to his old tricks, stashed Jack on a yacht in the middle of Lake Michigan with none other than Crazy Patty Williams, drugged their alcohol supply with ecstasy, and left the rest to chance.

As we all know now, this led to Diane walking in on Jack and Patty in bed together, the fabulous soap slap that was heard ’round the world, and finally, her walking out the door.

Across town, Nikki tried to read Victor the riot act for what he’d done to Jack… and got herself kicked to the curb for her efforts. The Mustache does not take kindly to her ongoing attachment to her ex-husband/his rival regardless of her characterizing it as a friendship.

With both Nikki and Diane checking into suites at the Athletic Club, and not a resolution in sight, the scene has been set for the twist we, quite honestly, didn’t see coming for these folks at this point in their lives… a partner swap.

Surely we jest, right? Wrong. Nikki and Jack’s connection has been a sticking point for both Diane and Victor for eons now… and the writers have been sure to hammer this home. Given that Diane and Victor married twice, it’s hardly a stretch to imagine them bonding over their frustration with their spouses and, ahem… aligning together.

“But,” you’re thinking, “Diane will blame Victor for Patty and Jack.” Except, she seems to be holding Jack solely responsible for his actions on the yacht and wasn’t swayed by his protestations that he was drugged.

Nikki and Jack, meanwhile, obviously care for one another deeply, and will almost certainly decide to lean on each other amid the tatters of their marriages. On soaps, as we know, commiseration often leads to something more, and before you know it… bow chicka wow wow.

Might Nikki end up with Jack, and Diane with Victor? Well, it would certainly explain why Peter Bergman warned of lasting consequences from the Patty and Jack encounter!
